Tennessee logistics firm to build $113M campus in Bullitt County

A Tennessee transportation company is set to invest major dollars in Kentucky.

On Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced that Averitt, a transportation and supply chain management provider, will build a new regional campus in Bullitt County.

The expansion will include investment that could exceed $113 million and allow the firm to add 64 employees over the next four years and retain 182 associates at its existing Louisville location. It has operations at 4020 McCollum Court and 2103 S. Park Road, a Google search shows.

“Kentucky’s distribution and logistics sector continues to help fuel our red-hot economy and create good jobs for our people,” Beshear said in a release. “Our talented workforce, incentive programs, unique location and speed-to-market resources are helping make the commonwealth an attractive destination for shipping companies looking to locate or expand.

"I am excited for Averitt’s new location and look forward to the company’s success in Bullitt County.”

The development will serve as home to Averitt’s entire regional operation, a single integrated campus that brings together all five of the company’s service units: less-than-truckload (LTL), truckload, dedicated, distribution and fulfillment, and integrated services.

The campus will include:

  • A two-story, 10,000-square-foot regional office with training and collaboration space;
  • A 50,000-square-foot, 100-door cross-dock, expandable to 160 doors;
  • A warehouse totaling more than 286,000 square feet of distribution and fulfillment space; and
  • Parking for more than 300 trailers, plus fleet maintenance, fueling and driver support facilities to elevate the day-to-day experience of its drivers

Construction on the campus is expected to begin immediately and be completed in 2028. While company leaders noted numbers are still being refined, the development could top $113 million in investment when everything is built, the release says.

The new campus will replace the 40,000-square-foot service center Averitt currently operates at 4020 McCollum Court. Averitt is celebrating its 44th year of operation in Bullitt County, having opened its first local office in 1982.

According to the release, the new campus will be built at Interstate 65 and Brooks Hill Road in northern Bullitt County.

The land deal was brokered by TRIO Commercial Property Group. The sale price for the 62.2 acre plot was $8.375 million.

“This Louisville expansion is a significant and unique facility investment for Averitt,” said Barry Blakely, president and chief operating officer at Averitt. “The new campus will allow us to provide faster, more adaptable and more efficient service, while enhancing our capacity to meet increasing freight demand in the Greater Louisville area and all across the South.”

New positions will include local and over-the-road drivers, dock associates, diesel mechanics, sales, administrative support and other logistics professionals.

According to the company, a significant number of the new positions will not require a college or advanced degree and will be supported by on-the-job training, leadership development tracks and clear advancement opportunities.

In other recent Bullitt County news, a pair of warehouses in Shepherdsville recently sold for more than $145 million.
